Hello, This is all new to me so any guidance that anyone feels I need will be looked on as helpful and informative. My camara is a Canon eos 1000d, and I bought it from Park Camaras in Burgess Hill, have taken just over 1000 pictures since Sept 2008 when I bought it, and am attending an evening class on Digital photography am also in the throws of cataloging my photo's with the help of light room. Hope this is the sort of thing you want on this page to get started, let me know if all ok. tl

Hi Caroline I am also on a course at Marle Place, so you are already doing the best thing, and the tutor should be able to help, also Park Cameras in Burgess Hill will advise you I am sure, as you progress through the course things will make more sense, and you will know what you need to do the job that you have in mind. I would recommend the Canon 1000d that I have, as it has the same features as the 450d I believe but is only 10 million pixels where the 450d is 12million, I was told that 10 is nearer the optimum number for the sensor size that both cameras have, anyway get as much info as you can, ask as many questions as you can and see if you can try some cameras out before you buy. to see if you like the feel and can work and see the controls. Hope this helps tl

Hello Caroline, DSLR cameras are getting cheaper now. I am using a canon450d and it is quite good, I am a beginner as well and I know that it is very confusing to learn the different camera controls but once you have a lot of practice you will feel confident to try different shots (to use different shutter speed and aperture priority). I go out once a week and practice ( even in the garden, just be creative). It is like a trial and error stage. I have learned a lot by doing this. I do not think it is very important what model of camera you are using when you are still learning. A good old model is not bad, and a 10 million pixel is good enough to start with. So if you treat yourself and get a DSLR camera, do not be afraid to try the different camera controls. Always remember, it is not your camera that take stunning photos, it is your creative mind. A camera is just there to help you capture it. A popular photographer said that ''It is not what your eyes can see, it is how you see it''. Good luck and hope to see your photos here soon. Kind regards, Canon450d

wow! what lovely support thanks! i'm keen on being able to blow up my photos to mega size on canvas, will i be limited by 10mil pix? i've been using a 450D cannon whilst on the course, and am leaning towards that model. any suggestions of where the best bargins are to be found?/ did the bluebell railway day course yesterday, apart from nursing a banging hangover, it was a brill day, and really got to know the camera and got so much from the day out. i'll defo do more courses in the future... well worth it.. do keep the comments coming! caroline.

Hello Caroline I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the day at Bluebell. I never tire of this venue, everytime i visit the place I always manage to capture different images. Even though I am not a train enthusiast it never surprises me as to the diversity of subjects on offer - portrait, low light, abstarct etc, no dount this is why it is one of our most popular workshops. Re the 450D, I am glad you had the chance to get to use the camera in the field as opposed to the classroom, hopefully you now know what it is capable of, espically in low light as in inside the locomotive shed. Regarding quality you will EASILY be able to print to A3 size, remember a canvas will never look as sharp as a convienational print. Hope that helps. Our next workshop is scheduled for the 29th at Huxley's and promises to be something special. Regards DSLR Tutor.

what is huxleys?? can anyone tell me what a Tamron lens is like? they are so much cheaper than Cannon. is it a case of you get what you pay for? i'm thinking along the lines of a 70-300 lens..... hmmm. cannon or tamron. it must be image stabiliser also... another question, if cannons have their own focusing motor within the camera. if a lens also has one... which motor is used?? caroline.
